Carmody Hills Newton’s Thinkers serves students in kindergarten through second grade, giving younger learners a strong start through academic support, enrichment, and relationship-centered programming.
About the Site
Because the site serves early elementary students, the work at Carmody is especially focused on foundational literacy, number sense, social-emotional development, routines, confidence, and helping children see themselves as capable learners.
The Carmody Hills school community is deeply dedicated to its children during out-of-school time. Families and educators understand that what happens after the bell matters, especially for younger students who are still forming their habits, identities, and confidence as learners.
Carmody’s strength is its foundation-building purpose. BTS has the opportunity to meet students early, build trust early, and help establish the academic and social habits that can carry students forward for years.
About the Site Leader
Derrick Cole, M.Ed. is one of BTS’ strongest instructional anchors. A veteran elementary educator, Derrick has served students and families through classroom instruction, curriculum development, literacy support, and leadership in out-of-school time.
His background includes a Master of Education in Elementary Education, a graduate certificate in Teacher Leadership, Google Certified Educator credentials, and extensive experience designing lessons that connect real-world concepts to elementary learning.
Within BTS, Derrick is known as a clear and practical reading and curriculum leader. His work has helped shape how Newton’s Thinkers approaches literacy, academic confidence, and meaningful instruction for young learners across sites.
At Carmody Hills, that influence is especially valuable. The program serves students in the earliest grades, where strong foundations, trusted adults, and joyful learning routines can shape a child’s path for years to come.
